One of the things that people find most inspiring about JoJo Gomez isn’t just her immense talent as a dancer and choreography but it is also her career story. She received classical dance training from childhood and moved to Los Angeles as soon as she left high school to make it big in the dance world. She immediately landed a spot dancing on stage at the VMAs for the Britney Spears tribute in 2011.

As she matured, her body started changing and she gained weight, which closed lots of doors to her at auditions. But she didn’t let that stop her. Rather than changing herself, she chose to celebrate her body and create her own brand, posting videos on YouTube of her dance routines. Since then, her career has exploded. Not only has she appeared in dance videos for people as big as Beyonce, she was also contacted by Tinashe to choreograph her music video for Company (and made a life-long friend in the process).

JoJo posts videos showcasing her routines (she is particularly known for her choreography to the biggest pop hits) and she also teaches dance at her studio. She has proven that, with the power of social media and a whole lot of talent, you can craft your own way in the dance world and do it on your own terms. Talk about an inspiration!
