When we think of Bachata, most likely the first thing that comes to mind is a romantic dance style with graceful steps and a relaxed vibe. But Bachata Fusion is more than just a dance style. Regardless of the original dance genre it’s coming from, dance fusion is a philosophy. It’s about combining different dance styles together to create something brand new.

Dance Fusion is a different way of looking at dancing in general – when you ignore the rules and boundaries of “what you can or can’t do.” It’s about being free to dance how you like, and about creating your own moves and style. It’s about feeling the music and allowing yourself to get lost in the moment. It’s about breaking out of your comfort zone and trying new things.

So when we talk about Bachata Fusion in particular, we’re talking about a fusion of all bachata sub-styles and other dance genres like Zouk, Kizomba, Salsa, Merengue and even Hip-hop! It’s a way to take your favorite elements of all these dances and combine them to create something unique that is uniquely you, yet within the recognizable structure of the original Bachata dance.

This is what we see today with Bachata Fusion dance teachers around the world – using their favorite elements of the many different Latin dance styles and making their own. They use their creative skills and inspirations to create fun and engaging choreographies for students to follow and enjoy, while also teaching them the fundamentals for each specific dance style they incorporate into the choreography.

There are many different elements of Bachata that all contribute to creating the “feel” of this particular style of dance. Some of these elements include: step patterns, body movements, posture and alignment, rhythm and musicality, footwork, styling, and of course those beautiful romantic dance moves we love so much!

If you’d like to start learning bachata we invite you check out your local dance studio and see what they have to offer. Make sure to choose a class that offers both fundamentals of the bachata dance style and a fun and creative way of teaching, so that you’re learning not only the basic moves but also how to enjoy this beautiful dance to the fullest!
