About
This season’s Dance Off The Grid premiere is presented in partnership with The New York State DanceForce which is committed to increasing the quantity and quality of dance throughout the state. The evening features three world class dance companies including the performance-based artist, dancer, choreographer Adam H. Weinert, the highly rhythmic and uproariously irreverent Bang Group, and the New York City inspired solo work of Jim Self, the acclaimed multi-media artist, muse and collaborator.
Adam H. Weinert will perform excerpts from “Monument” that combines beautifully revived works by such legends of modern dance as Doris Humphrey, José Limón and Ted Shawn with original contemporary choreography. Witness a master recreate classic dances from the early 1920s and 30s with ingenuity, reverence, and grace.
The Bang Group will perform three works; the solo “Song & Dance” where choreographer David Parker will take the stage to sing and tap Mozart’s “Turkish March;” the amusing duet “Two Left Feet”; and the trio “Turing Tests” in which dancers use their bodies to perform the musical score “Perfect For The Bang Group,” by Dean Rosenthal.
Jim Self draws on being “40 Years a New Yorker.” Using short episodic vignettes, Self shares and reflects on what it meant, how it now occurs, and what it could be for an Alabama born man living in the Empire State.
