Some really beautiful choreography here by the extremely talented Devante Walden. At only 20 years old, Devante has already calved himself quite a name in the Afro Dance world. Not only is he a dancer, but he is also a choreographer and a model. He is also pretty big in the social media world, with nearly 70,000 Instagram followers.
His claim to fame really came when he performed at “Oh My!”, the Amsterdam Urban Music Festival. This is the biggest festival of its kind in Europe, with music from genres such as hip-hop, dubstep, R&B, and house. And it has attracted some really big stars, such as Wiz Khalifa, French Montana, and T-Pain.

Afro dance is a wonderful mix of traditional West African dance styles with contemporary dance styles from the worldwide African diaspora. It’s a great example of how dance styles can evolve over time. And that’s what can be so unique about dance, and about music. It is ever-evolving, ever-changing, and ever-new. Whenever you think that people have done all there is to be done with a certain style, along come talented people who go ahead and flip it all on its head and make it brand new.
And Devante Walden, with his social media following, forays into fashion, and online workshops is a figurehead of this generation’s relationship with dance, what it means to them, and how they relate to their audience. The choreography in this video is so fresh and so full of fun and life that you just can’t help but be carried along right there with them!
