This is some gorgeous bachata lady style choreography by the one and only Elza Khamatullina. And it is as sophisticated and sensual as always. Elza is a master at bachata lady style, so you might not be able to follow along with her choreography straight off the bat. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t learn how to do bachata lady style on your own. And the first step to doing that is to learn how to do the basic steps of bachata.

Bachata lady style – the basics. What makes bachata so accessible is that, at its core, it is quite a simple dance to learn. As you can see from this video, you can build off the base to make it much more complex and creative, but learning the basics won’t take you very long at all.

Bachata is an eight-beat dance, with the music having four beats per measure. It won’t take long for you to be able to hear the beats straight away. On the first four beats, you should move to your left, then move to your right for the next four beats. Starting with the left, you should take three steps and then on the fourth beat, lift your right leg off the ground. And when you move to the right, do the same thing – three steps, then lift your left foot off the ground.

Lifiting your foot off the ground will cause your hips to jut out in that direction and you should really let that movement happen. Once you are moving smoothly, your hips will naturally sway to the beat, which is the distinctive bachata hip sway you will recognise from any bachata video that you watch. After you have the basics down, then you can start to add in other elements like body rolls, twists, and leg crosses. And that’s where the fun comes in!
