I came across an awesome new kizomba dance video today. Kizomba is a dance that started in Angola. It is now popular around the world. The video shows two famous kizomba teachers, Jojo and Mickaela. They taught a workshop at a dance festival and here they are showing off moves from the class.

The dancers look great together. Their dancing really catches your eye. The song they dance to is “Broken Hearted Boy” by Blvck Skyle. What makes this video special is Jojo and Mickaela’s unique dance moves. Their tricks are the most creative I have seen.

Some YouTube comments praise the pair: “Love them together. Mesmerizing each time I see them dance together. Passionate…. secluded.” Someone also wrote: “The chemistry is exploding! Please dance together just one more time!” Well I cannot agree more, I watched this video a couple of times before posting it here – it was so good.

So what is kizomba dancing? Someone might say Kizomba represents closeness and that wouldn’t be far off. Kizomba comes from the word “party” in Kimbundu, an Angolan language. The dance style started in Angola in the 1980s. Kizomba is all about closeness and connection between partners.

It is an intimate dance of lingering embraces, fluid legs wraps, and synchronized swaying. Kizomba dancers often stand chest-to-chest. They coordinate seamless rhythmic movements to sync with the music’s beat. This gives kizomba its signature fluid, sensual look.

Beyond the technical moves, kizomba symbolizes Angola’s history. Angola suffered a long civil war that tore families and communities apart. Kizomba dance brought people back together during rebuilding and reconciliation, especially in the Angolan refugee communities outside their homeland. The embrace between partners could easily represent unity after adversity.

Does the passion of kizomba call to you? I highly recommend trying a beginner kizomba class. Learning to dance is fun, healthy, and life-enriching. Moving your body to music alongside a partner creates human connections. Look for a local class today or try an online tutorial!
